FIELD: paper-and- pulp industry. SUBSTANCE: process is carried out in two stages on flow vibrational centrifugal mill using acceleration of grinding bodies 100-200 m/s2 for 1 to 2 min. First, original cellulose-containing raw material is treated with monocloroacetic acid salt and then, aqueous sodium hydroxide solution is added to preliminarily formed composite to ensure molar ratio cellulose/salt/alkali/water equal to 1:1.7:1.6:(0.85- 0.90). Process is terminated by ripening conducted at heating. EFFECT: simplified technology and carboxymethylcellulose is obtained in the form of free-flowing easy-to-dissolve powder. 6 ex
