PROCESS OF MANUFACTURE OF FIBROUS LIGHT GUIDES PRESERVING RADIATION POLARIZATION Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

FIELD: manufacture of fibrous light guides with high birefringence used in interferometric transducers of physical fields. SUBSTANCE: workstock based on quartz glass is prepared. Layers of stressing and insulating shells and core are deposited inside workstock by method of chemical precipitation. Workstock is collapsed to mould. Symmetric grooves 0.3-1.0 mm wide having depth providing for space between bottom of groove and stressing shell equal to 0.2 diameter of stressing shell are cut along entire length of workstock, along its axis. High-temperature rounding of workstock is conducted by its exposure to flame of moving oxygen burner and simultaneous turning of workstock. Even number of runs of burner with stepped decrease of velocity of each pair of runs is carried out. Velocity of first pair of runs of burner is set equal to 1+0.2 mm/s. Direction of turning of workstock changes each time from run to run. EFFECT: reduced loss of starting materials, increased manufacturing productivity. 4 dwg
