FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method uses modified chemical vapour deposition (MCVD) to obtain a cylindrical workpiece which has a core, insulating, tension and process shells on a support outer shell made from quartz glass. Two grooves are cut on diametrically opposite sides of the workpiece and the fibre undergoes high temperature rounding and stretching. The deposited shells have the same refraction index which is less than the refraction index of the outer shell made from pure quartz glass. The process shell has ellipticity which is not less than 0.25. The insulating and process shells are doped with fluorine.
EFFECT: high degree of retaining radiation polarisation.
