FIELD: information storage equipment. SUBSTANCE: device may be used for writing information to reading information from information carriers designed as disk, card or tape. Device is designed as optical detector, which is located in optical unit and compatible to multiple optical information carriers of different height. Device comprises light source, which emits light beam, lens for focusing light beam produced by light source into light spot on information storage surface of one of multiple optical information carriers. In addition device has photodetector for detection of light beam, which is passed through lens after reflection from information storage surface of one of multiple optical information carriers to which light spot is focused. Lens comprises inner region, ring lens region and outer region with center at vertex. Ring lens region is ring-shaped and separates inner region from outer region. Inner region, ring lens region and outer region have aspherical surface in order to focus light beam, which passes through inner region towards outer region, into single light spot, which is used for reading information from information storage surface of thin first optical storage carrier. Also lens dissipates light which passes through ring lens region, so that dissipated light is not focused on information storage surface of fine optical disk. Information reading from information storage surface of thick optical disk is performed by means of focusing light, which passes through inner region and ring lens region, into single light spot, and by dissipating light , which passes through outer region, so that information cannot be read from information storage surface of thick optical disk. This design results in possibility to write information to and to read information from information storage surfaces of optical recording carriers of multiple formats, such as digital multilateral disk, WORM CD, MO CD, ROM CD and laser disk.
