FIELD: carbon dioxide production. SUBSTANCE: sodium bicarbonate-based composition for production of carbon dioxide also contains 2.5-3.5% of graphite. Composition is subjected to thermal decomposition in the form of homogeneous powder under pressure 1750-2250 kg/sq.cm between layers of conducting powder with conductivity at least 600 Ohm-1•cm-1. Thermal decomposition is effected by passing electric current at power in section overlapping compressed powdered composition equal to 1.5-10 W per 1 g of composition. Resulting carbon dioxide is designed for use in food industry and as component of fire-extinguishing compositions.
