FIELD: production of lime applicable in chemical industry as process raw material and in metallurgical industry, as fluxes. SUBSTANCE: method includes crushing of limestone to obtain fractions sizing 40-150 mm, burning of lumpy limestone in shaft kiln with combustion products of fuel in form of natural gas counterflow from top downward successively in three process zones: zone of heating with temperature up to 900 C, zone of burning itself with temperature of 900-1200 C, and zone of cooling with temperature of 40-70 C. Natural gas is supplied to kiln at pressure of 2- 45 kPa. Limestone is crushed by screening. Lime is subjected to crushing after cooling zone in jaw and hummer crushers. A portion of kiln gas with concentration of carbon dioxide of, at least, 20% is utilized and directed for production of white black and chemically precipitated chalk. EFFECT: higher degree of burning, reduced process duration and higher process efficiency. 6 cl
