FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing calcium carbide in an ore-thermal furnace, involving preparation of charge from lime and carbon-containing material, loading of charge into furnace, melting of charge, loading obtained calcium carbide melt into rotating cooling drum in mixture with additives of material used in production of calcium carbide for cooling, crystallisation and crushing, with subsequent separation of lump calcium carbide by size into fractions. Method is characterized by that the additive used is solid nonconforming calcium carbide-retour charged simultaneously with the calcium carbide melt draining into the cooling drum in a weight ratio of melt-retour equal to 1:(0.4–0.6), in which preliminary crushing is performed at the cooling drum rotation speed within 4–8 rpm, and final crushing of the calcium carbide pieces is carried out in the jaw crusher, after their transportation from cooling drum, wherein separation by fractions is carried out after termination of crushing process in jaw crusher.
EFFECT: use of the proposed method increases calcium carbide capacity, increases output of standard calcium carbide fractions and increases operating reliability of the granulation cooling drum.
