FIELD: sealing nuclear fuel rods. SUBSTANCE: bar of zirconium base alloy containing 50-250 mass parts of iron, 0.8-1.3 mass percent of niobium, less than 1600 mass parts of oxygen, less than 200 mass parts of carbon, and less than 120 mass parts of silicon is manufactured and dipped in water upon heating to 1000-1200 C; blank is extruded upon heating at 600-800 C, subjected to cold rolling at least in four steps to obtain tube with intermediate steps of heat treatment at 560-620 C, followed by final heat treatment at 560-620 C; all heat treatment steps are conducted in inert environment or in vacuum. EFFECT: improved corrosion resistance in water at high temperatures and adequate yield strength of can. 7 cl, 1 dwg
