SUBSTANCE: analog-to-digital converter has output yielding pulse-width modulated signal with desired duty factor which can be used as reference signal V/2 to compensate for changes in remaining part of analog-to-digital conversion circuit. Converter also has several output stages 46 each incorporating tristable buffer 54 producing ON- or OFF-signal, or pulse-width modulated signal; desired signal is chosen by multiplexer 52 controlled by chord decoder 50 in response to exponent bits within input digital signal value. When pulse-width modulated signal is chosen, its duty factor is adjusted by pulse-width modulated decoder 48 responding to mantissa bits within input digital signal value.
