FIELD: measuring equipment, applicable in flaw detection of pipe-line walls and in other branches of engineering. SUBSTANCE: the magneto-optic flaw detector has a source of polarized light, light-beam generator, film of magneto-optic material with a protective coating, optical system for forming of defect image, matrix of photodetectors, former of magnetic flux in the ferromagnetic specimen under test. The photodetectors in the matrix of photodetectors are located in succession in the direction of light beam motion. The protective coating is made of alternating quarter-wave layers of dielectric with different refractive indices. The light illuminates the boundaries of separation of layers of dielectric at Brewster's angle. Polarization of radiation is oriented in the plane of incidence. EFFECT: enhanced quality of flaw detection of pipe-line walls by increasing the contrast of defect image, simplified design. 1 dwg
