SCINTILLATION SUBSTANCE ( VARIANTS ) AND SCINTILLATION WAVEGUIDE ELEMENT Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

Abstract RU 2157552 C2

FIELD: medicine, nuclear physics, oil industry. SUBSTANCE: invention is specifically related to measurement of X-ray, gamma and alpha radiations, to monitoring of transuranium radio nuclides in human habitation, to nondestructive inspection of structure of solid bodies, to three-dimensional positron- electron computer tomography, etc. Specific feature of invention consists in inclusion of additional ingredients to chemical composition of scintillation substance based on silicates of crystals including lutecium Lu and cerium Ce. There is described waveguide element made of monocrystalline scintillation substance with refractive index of central part exceeding that of peripheral part. Technical objective of invention lies in increased light output of luminescence, decreased time of luminescence of ions Ce3+, enhanced reproducibility of properties of grown crystals, reduced cost of starting mixture for growing crystals of scintillators that includes large amount of Lu2O3, increased efficiency of input of luminescent radiation of scintillation crystal into glass waveguide fiber, prevention of cracking of crystals while elements are manufactured, formation of waveguide properties in scintillation elements, exclusion of expensive mechanical polishing of their side surfaces. EFFECT: improved properties of grown crystals. 8 cl, 5 dwg
