FIELD: detection of various flaws, wear and breaks in ropes included, residual deformation in parts. SUBSTANCE: procedure is based on magnetization of tested object with alternating current and on formation of electric signal with the aid of magnetic field formed on object. Formed signal is compared with reference one in which capacity signal of magnetization alternating current is used. Comparison is conducted by superimposition of signal of magnetization alternating current in antiphase on formed signal. Field is monitored by phase shift and by change of amplitude of third harmonic of signal formed on object. Procedure makes it feasible to detect corrosion damage or mechanical breaks of individual wires in braided wire rope or to carry out relative evaluation of residual thermal stresses in welds. EFFECT: improved reliability of procedure.
