FIELD: industrial inorganic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: bismuth-containing material is treated with acid. Hydrolytic purification of bismuth is carried out with alkali reagent solution at pH 0.5-1.4 and temperature 40-70 C. Bismuth hydrogen nitrate is converted into bismuth nitrate at equilibrium concentration of acid in solution 2.8 to 10.6 M and end temperature of process 15-25 C. EFFECT: essentially increased purity of solution, eliminated environmentally hazardous concentrated nitric acid evaporation stage, and threefold reduced power consumption. 2 tbl, 2 ex
