FIELD: machine engineering, namely manufacture of sealing piston rings for internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of mounting preliminarily worked rings with cone working surface onto mandrel and introducing to grinding sleeve whose working surface is in the form of truncated circular cone with angle of generatrix equal to angle of ring profile; imparting rotation and reciprocation motion to mandrel on portion from diameter D1 of upper part of sleeve until diameter D2 of lower part of sleeve. Diameter D1 corresponds to diameter of piston ring tightened by flexible belt with zero out-of-roundness; D2 corresponds to diameter of working cylinder of engine in which piston ring is mounted; selecting height of pack of piston ring depending upon angle of generatrix and difference of diameters. It provides uniform metal removal from ring circumference. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of working. 3 dwg
