FIELD: organic chemistry, more particularly low freezing drying agent of natural gas, flotation agents, and preparation of hydraulic brake fluids. SUBSTANCE: monoalkyl ((C1-C4)) esters of tri-and tetraethylene glycols are prepared by oxyethylation of alcohol stock based on mixture of aliphatic alcohols and (C1-C4) monoalkyl esters of mono-and diethylene glycol containing 20-70 wt % of aliphatic (C1-C4) alcohol at alcoholic stock to ethylene oxide weight ratio of 1:0.5-3 using alkali alcoho9late of monoalkyl esters of mono- and diethylene glycols. In carrying out process under conditions indicated above, yield of monoalkyl esters of tri- and tetraethylene glycols varies from 92 to 96% calculated for transformed amount o ethylene oxide and alcoholic stock.
