FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves placing light guide of illumination unit sending cold light beam of required intensity from the skin side to the root projection or roots of a tooth under examination. Light source is halogen lamp of 24 V, 150 V. Transillumination picture is evaluated from the palatal or glossal surface of alveolar process of the maxilla or mandible. The alveolar process surface remaining homogeneous, no destructive forms of obstructive periodontitis is available. Dark spots of various sizes and intensity corresponding to projection or roots of teeth under examination are found in the cases of obstructive periodontitis.
