Monoalkyl esters of phthalic or maleic acid are made to react with stearic acid and hydroxides or oxides of second group metals which include Ca, Ba, Zn, Cd or two-component mixtures thereof using stoichiometric ratios of original components and using water, acetone, alcohol or mixture of water with acetone or alcohol as solvent, and process is carried out by heating at 50-80 C. Invention permits widening range of stabilizers used and preparing stabilizer having letter thermal stability as compared with the prior art, using cheaper and suitable components as original stock, conducting process in aqueous medium, thus making it possible to prepare final product in the form of finely dispersed powder.
