FIELD: petrochemical synthesis. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of calcium stearate useful as polyvinylchloride stabilizer and in production of varnishes and surfactant compositions valuable as flotation agents. Method is distinguished by that, to produce calcium stearate, stearic acid is preliminarily dissolved in 2-5-fold weight excess of water-alcohol solution with volume ratio (1.5-0.5):(0.5-1.5), after which resulting mixture interacts with 18-25% calcium hydroxide aqueous solution at molar ratio of stearic acid to this solution 2:(1.3-1.5) and desired product is isolated by known methods. Water-alcohol solution is prepared by dissolving monoatomic fatty C1-C4-alcohols in water. EFFECT: excluded formation of by-products. 2 cl, 4 tbl, 30 ex
