FIELD: manufacture of silicate refractories with high content of magnesium oxide used in devices for steel casting of metallurgical and other heat units. SUBSTANCE: mixture contains roasted dunite of 3-0 mm fraction, sintered periclase-containing component in the form of mixture of combined grinding of sintered periclase and fireclay to fraction of at least 0.063 mm in the following composition, wt.%: sintered periclase, 78-85; fireclay, 15-22. Mixture has the following ratio of components, wt.%: roasted dunite of 3-0 mm fraction, 75-81; said mixture of combined grinding of 0.063 mm fraction, 19-25; technical lignosulfonates above 100%, 5-6. In this case, roasted dunite has the following granulometric composition, wt.%: fraction of 3-1 mm, 46-54; fraction of 1-0.063 mm, 46-54. Forsterite articles from mixture of said composition are manufactured by the following method. Prepared from mixture of components is mass which is pressed at specific pressure of at least 150 N/sq.mm. In this case, time for attaining of said pressure is at least 6 s and holding at attained pressure is at least for 1 s. Articles are dried and roasted at temperature of 1310-1350 C.
