FIELD: refractory materials. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of high-resistance carbon- containing refractory materials for lining of assemblies in nonferrous and ferrous metallurgy, in particular, for out-of-furnace steel processing installations, argon-oxygen metal refining assemblies, and converters. Magnesia-carbon refractory material contains (in wt %): periclase and/or fired dolomite fraction below 5 mm, 50-75; fine mixture of periclase with silicicated graphite fraction below 0.063 mm at ratio 75:25 to 50:50, 20-30; crystalline graphite, 2-5; and organic binder, 3-8.
