FIELD: refractory materials. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to products designed for linings in high-temperature furnaces. Method includes preparing grainy alumino-magnesia composition, mixing it with grainy and dispersed periclase, wetting charge by temporary binding agent, compacting, drying, and baking products. Composition is prepared by grinding mixture containing 28-40% periclase and 60-72% silica to particle size less than 0.2 mm. Agglomerated ground mixture is thermally treated by means of drying or short- time baking at 1450-1650 C and then crushed. Charge for compacting periclase-spinel products contains 45-70% of grainy periclase, 5- 20% of grainy alumino-magnesia composition, and 25-35% of dispersed periclase. Alumino-magnesia composition contains from 4 to 72% free aluminum oxide and exhibits linear shrinkage on baking in periclase-spinel products no higher than 5.5%.
