FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: invention refers to measurement of level of flow of liquid flowing over open conduit. Method of measurement of level consists in indirect measurement of distance from bottom to level of surface of separation of media " liquid-air " along vertical line. Jet of current- conducting liquid running from height larger than maximum possible position of measured level is formed, length (Lб) of trajectory of jet from its source to mark located in trajectory of jet above measured level but not beneath source of jet and length of trajectory L of jet from its source to bottom of conduit are measured. Electric current is transmitted along jet and through cross-section of flow of liquid to bottom of conduit. Relation of two electric voltages, one of them (Ux) being determined across section of jet between mark and bottom of conduit and other one (Uп) being determined across section of jet from its source to bottom of conduit is measured. Device to measure level of flow of liquid is made of primary converter having section of conduit and measurement unit with source of variable voltage of low frequency. Primary converter has conductive cock connected to water supply system and directed vertically downwards on to flow, two electrodes, one being located in line of trajectory of jet in its middle and above possible maximum value of level of filling of conduit with liquid, the other one being located in flow on bottom of conduit. Cock and electrode located on bottom of conduit are connected to source of variable voltage of low frequency and both electrodes are connected to input of measurement unit.
