FIELD: gas treatment. SUBSTANCE: gas is treated with aqueous cleaning liquid. Spent cleaning liquid is treated with autotrophic sulfide-oxidizing bacteria in aerobic conditions at pH values within a range of 9.0-10.4. Elemental sulfur formed in the course of process is separated from spent cleaning liquid, which can be then reused in the gas cleaning stage. Before being recycled, cleaning liquid can be further treated with heterotrophic thiosulfate-oxidizing bacteria producing polythionate, which in turn improves sulfide-removing capacity of cleaning liquid. EFFECT: enhanced sulfur removal efficiency. 10 cl, 2 dwg
