FIELD: communications engineering. SUBSTANCE: receiving unit of communication system estimates bit-error rate and determines precision of this estimate basing on single burst of data exchange signals. Adequate decision algorithm is chosen according to estimate of bit-error rate precision. Various decision algorithms are available for yielding desired results by means of these decisions. Decision taken according to bit-error rate precision estimate is preferred. Decision algorithm being chosen is estimated basing on quantitative evaluation of bit-error rate. Command for increasing or decreasing power level of its transmission can be conveyed to transmitting unit in compliance with this estimate. In addition, bit-error rate can be measured and measurement results are used to check decision algorithms for validity.
