FIELD: transport engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention is designed for starting internal combustion engines of large displacement provided with transmissions (large-capacity trucks, agricultural and building machinery). Inertia starter designed for engine starting employs transmission members as inertia mass (flywheel), namely, clutch and gearbox shaft or shafts or shafts which makes it possible to use for engine starting both starter and storage battery of lower capacity and hence, low cost, at considerable increased of starting speed with resulting reliable starting of engine. As distinct from other inertia systems, proposed starting device does not occupy hood space of vehicle. EFFECT: reduced mass, overall and power characteristics of starter and storage battery, increased starting speed. 2 dwg
