FIELD: medicine, in particular, equipment used in traumatology and orthopedics. SUBSTANCE: wire tightener has two branches pivotally coupled one with the other and provided with rack-and-pinion mechanism. Wire retention units made in the form of eccentric with lever are fixed on working ends of each branch. One of branches is provided with opening axially aligned with wire and retention unit. Detachable tip mounted inside opening for turning through 360 deg has axial channel, arched rest cheeks and guiding frame with connecting member. In the process of tightening the wire, guiding frame retains wire tightener in strict position along wires regardless of presence of parts in adjacent openings of apparatus. Connecting member rests upon wire to balance the system. Turning of detachable tip to required angle allows the whole apparatus to be oriented to ergonomically suitable position. Wire tightener of such construction is designed for operative therapy performed by means of wire apparatuses and for skeletal extension. EFFECT: improved quality providing intensified wire tightening process and provision for reliable attachment of wires in fixing apparatuses and other orthopedic devices. 4 dwg
