FIELD: feeding alumina to aluminum electrolyzer. SUBSTANCE: method involves alumina supply to electrolyte crust over its longitudinal sides and periodic dipping of crust in electrolyte without its crushing by applying gradually built up pressure on crust. Solid crust is immersed in electrolyte by simultaneously building up pressure on electrolyte crust in space under bell and in bell-to-side space; maximum amount of alumina is fed to zones where anode operation is most intensive and where electrolyte melt acts on side lining of cathode device. EFFECT: increased service life of cathode device, provision for introducing raw material without destroying electrolyte crust, improved capacity. 2 cl, 1 ex
