FIELD: quantum electronics; actively quality-switched process lasers. SUBSTANCE: laser has one or more active elements 2, blind cavity mirror 1, and interference modulator 3-4 built around small-scale IC Fabry- Perot interferometer one of whose mirrors is mounted for displacement by means of piezoelectric motor 5 relative to other mirror along optical axis of cavity; at least one of interference modulator mirrors is spherical in shape curvature radii of mirrors being found from equation for equivalent-mirror curvature radius , where r1 and r2 are curvature radii of interference modulator mirrors; λ is laser radiation wavelength; rae is active element radius; is interferometer difference; R1 and R2 are reflection factors of interferometer mirrors. Laser radiation due to optical pumping of active element 2 by pump lamp is modulated by scanning one of mirrors of interferometer 3-4 along optical axis of cavity formed by blind mirror 1 and interferometer 3-4 proper with aid of piezoelectric motor 5. Varying mirror- to-mirror axial distance periodically changes interferometer reflection factor from maximum to minimum. In closed state interferometer reflection factor is at its maximum which causes fast increase in number of photons within blind mirror 1. Shifting interferometer mirror through quarter-wavelength changes reflection factor of interferometer to its maximum causing escape of laser beam from cavity in the form of short light pulse.
