FIELD: laser working of materials, possibly in machine engineering for welding articles of metals and alloys, for example of aluminium and its alloys. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of removing surface layer at simultaneously forming duct with lateral walls coated with thin melt layer. Such procedure is realized due to action of modulated irradiation of additional laser. Melting pulse begins to act at time shift relative to starting generation of pulse train of modulated irradiation of additional laser. Time shift is set according to given formula where ts is duration of pulse train of modulated irradiation; tl is time interval from starting pulse generation until time moment corresponding to knee of dependance "time-melting pulse power"; λtTm is heat conductivity factor and melting temperature of material respectively; h is depth of duct formed by means of modulated irradiation of laser; Pl is power of melting pulse of main laser; rf is radius of focal spot of irradiation.
