FIELD: production of secondary nonferrous metals by nonmetallurgical methods, particularly, from scrap of exhausted nickel-cadmium storage batteries. SUBSTANCE: before leaching scrap is converted into homogeneous loose mass different in magnetic properties which is separated into magnetic and nonmagnetic fractions and subjected to leaching to obtain nickel from magnetic fraction and cadmium from nonmagnetic fraction. The method allows separation of scrap into nickel-containing and cadmium containing fractions before leaching and practical recovery of both components in pure form. Obtained insoluble residue consists, mainly, of iron oxides in the form of commercial product. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 1 dwg
