FIELD: processing raw material, used nickel-cadmium storage batteries for example. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes introduction of oxidant into initial scrap, heating it to temperature of 350-600 C, holding at heat for 0.5 h, cooling and subjecting it to magnetic separation for separation into magnetic and non-magnetic fractions which are reduced separately by carbon and/or hydrogen and/or compounds containing these elements; non-magnetic fraction is molten for obtaining metallic cadmium and magnetic fraction is molted for obtaining iron-nickel alloy. EFFECT: increased extraction of cadmium. 1 dwg
