FIELD: neutron beam generation. SUBSTANCE: high-density fast neutron beam generator has accelerator operating in pulse mode to accelerate particle beam produced by ion source. Generator also has chamber that holds gas interacting with particle beam to produce desired neutron beam. There is evacuated channel for conveying accelerated particle beam to gas chamber and passage between gas chamber and channel. Passage control facility functions to open the passage for conveying pulses of accelerated particle beam to gas chamber and to fully or partially close it for preventing or eliminating gas leakage from gas chamber through passage during no-pulse intervals. EFFECT: enhanced energy level of generator sufficient, for example, to detect diamond inclusions in kimberlite. 13 cl, 5 dwg
