FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, particularly, designs of tandem steel-making units and technological processes of steel melting in them. SUBSTANCE: each melting bath of steel-making unit has mechanism for its tilting to front and rear walls through an angle of 45 deg relative to vertical axis. Installed in arch of each melting bath are oxygen lances and gas-oxygen burners for final burning of CO in exhaust gases which are supplied to the second melting bath for heating of cold iron charge. Charging of metal scrap directly to melting bath together with flux in the form of lime and/or limestone is carried out through charging-pouring windows made in front wall of melting bath with melting bath tilted towards its rear wall through 20-30 deg from vertical axis. In intermediate slag skimming through auxiliary window located between charging-pouring windows, melting bath is tilted through an angle of 18 deg to side of front wall. In steel tapping through taphole located at bottom on side of rear wall, melting bath is tilted through up to 45 deg from its vertical axis to side of rear wall. Charging of large oversize lumps of metal scrap weighing up to 15-20 t is possible. EFFECT: productivity of steel making process, higher stability of steel-making unit, simple design, reduced duration of melting, increased yield of good steel, extended technological potentialities of steel-making unit, simplified charging of metal scrap and pouring of hot metal. 9 cl, 3 dwg, 1 tbl
