FIELD: machine-tool manufacturing and repair processes. SUBSTANCE: surface finishing of metal-cutting machine tools is accomplished with the aid of a block head, whose lower end has spherical convexities in the form of hemispheres, or a tip with installed balls. At a stroke of the upper part of the block head by a hammer the spherical convexities get inculcated upon the treated surface with application of specific microrelief Ra=15-20 μm. The surface gets strengthened to Brinell hardness 260-280. Besides, provision is made for surface strengthening with the aid of a mechanical head comprising a body and a die carrying the heads. Force action on the die is accomplished cyclically by compressed air with obtaining the characteristics mentioned above. Such a design of the block heads makes it possible to use a hand block head both for independent treatment and for elimination of errors after treatment by a pneumomechanical head. EFFECT: enhanced wear resistance of surfaces due to a smoother distribution of residual stresses with the maximum at the surface. 5 cl, 3 dwg
