PLANING VESSEL Russian patent published in 2001 - IPC

FIELD: shipbuilding; building planing vessels with water-jet propellers, load-bearing appendages, plug-type spoilers, controllable fore hydrofoil and outriggers. SUBSTANCE: vessel has hull with deadrise bottom whose surface has symmetrical flat trapezoidal sections, transversal planing steps after flat sections and extensible active members for control of lifting force mounted after transversal planing steps. Vessel is provided with flat appendages at level of bottom; lower surfaces of these appendages are made flush with surfaces of flat sections of bottom. Transversal planing steps are made at sweep angle of 5 to 30 deg. Ratio of breadth of vessel with appendages to breadth of hull ranges from 1.2 to 2.5. Flat sections of bottom may be located in aft portion of hull or amidships. It is good practice to equip vessel with side outriggers which may be asymmetric in shape and may be provided with at least one transversal swept-forward planing step. Vessel may be provided with fore hydrofoil with controllable flaps. Vessel may be provided with water propeller having water intake hole found in bottom of hull in front of active control members of lift force. EFFECT: improved seaworthiness. 6 cl, 3 dwg
