FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: in correspondence with method measuring geometrical parameters of extended object, for example, electric contact wire of railroad by video camera with their relative linear translation measurement results are processed by computer. Case of video camera is oriented about its optical axis relative to nominal (working) position through angle of 90 deg at which lines of horizontal scan in image of video camera are perpendicular to direction of movement of object. Optical axis of video camera is oriented perpendicular to line of movement of object and with regard to plane of horizon through angle 20-25 deg with lens upwards and on to object. Method makes it possible to measure geometrical (vertical) dimension of current-carrying wire of railroad with relatively linear movement of meter and object of measurement with speed exceeding 100.0 km/h.
