SUBMARINE AFT EXTREMITY Russian patent published in 2001 - IPC

FIELD: building of submarines with nuclear or diesel power plants. SUBSTANCE: aft extremity has pressure hull and outer hull, aft compartment, propeller with hub, propeller shaft with bearings, propulsive electric motor, stern tube, aft planes with drives and gears for extension of towed antennae. Propeller is movably fitted on pressure hull in vicinity of aft compartment. To this end, break is provided in outer hull. Propeller is provided with hub of large diameter; hub coincides by its diameter and contour with generatrix of submarine outer hull in area of mounted propeller. Propeller thrust is transmitted to pressure hull through circular structural members of hub. Thrust and bearing surfaces of pressure structure of pressure hull and propeller hub are coated with antifriction material. Lubrication and cooling of friction surfaces are effected by sea water. EFFECT: enhanced protection of submarine aft extremity. 2 dwg
