FIELD: mining; applicable in driving and supporting of mine workings with large cross-section area. SUBSTANCE: method includes research of rock structure of working roof by determination of layer quantity of height equalling at least one half of working width, thickness and hardness of each layer. Calculated on the basis of obtained data is value of area of stable exposure of roof rocks at which no separation of layers occur. Obtained data are compared with design ones. Should obtained data exceed design ones, working is driven by one stope, when design data exceed obtained ones rock mass is broken by two stopes. EFFECT: higher stability of working due to prevented separation of layers caused by rock pressure. 2 cl, 4 dwg
