FIELD: nuclear reactor manufacture. SUBSTANCE: method for building elongated subcritical nuclear reactors without pre-compensated extra nuclear mass whose core is sensitive to local disturbances of neutron flux at any point and whose reactivity can be varied by means of control rods brought out of core to prevent occurrence of critical masses involves building up nuclear mass of core to subcritical state and making it ready to supercritical condition attained due to raising role of neutron leakage in their total balance thereby organizing core voids and optimizing increment of multiplication factor as function of ratio of volume occupied by voids to total volume of core. Nuclear reactor has cores, neutron moderators, and reflectors. Cores have voids in the form of through channels; some of reflectors are movable parts, and core size is limited by upper limit of multiplication factor rise as function of core size.
