FIELD: catalyst production. SUBSTANCE: invention provides method for preparing compounds containing at least one VIII group-transition metal with oxidation state 0 or 1 associated with at least one water-soluble mono- or bidentate phosphine: aqueous solution containing at least one transition metal compound and above-indicated phosphine is subjected to hydrogen- mediated reduction process in absence of carbon monoxide.
