FIELD: production of absorbing material. SUBSTANCE: absorbing material contains fiber flexible in wet state and having tear resistance coefficient expressed in the form of average geometric value of at least 01, density exceeding 0.3 g/cu.cm and absorption capacity of 4 g of water per 1 g of fiber. Fiber flexible in wet state is cellulose fiber with increased alpha-cellulose content. When material is impregnated with water, its density is reduced by at least 20%. Absorbing material may be made from paper web subjected to compression, corrugation and drying. This material contains fiber flexible in wet state and agent which increases strength in wet state. Density of paper web is at least 0.3 g/cu.cm and absorbing capacity is about 4 g of water per 1 g of fiber. EFFECT: increased efficiency in absorbing and retaining of wide range of different liquids and simplified structure of material. 34 cl, 4 dwg, 2 tbl, 1 ex
