FIELD: radar, radiator detection, seismometry, navigation, radio communication systems with bearing modulation, etc. SUBSTANCE: spatially orthogonal components of the signal vector are separated. They are differentiated once and twice. Then groups of single-component signals and groups of two-component signals are formed. Using the obtained derivative components, formed are mixed signals by subtraction of the two-component signal made up of the same components as the twin product from the twin product of single-component signals. A quadratic ally gained sum of single-component signals is obtained, and a quadruply gained sum of mixed signals is subtracted from it, deforming then the obtained signal according to the inversely quadratic relationship. The signals proportional to the semi-major and semi-minor axes of the polarization ellipse are separated by finding the sum and the difference of the deformed signal and the sum of single-component signals reduced by two times. Signals proportional to the quadratic relationship of the direction cosines of the normal to the plane of the polarization ellipse and its semi-axes are obtained.
