FIELD: tests of metals and alloys for impact bending at decreased, room and increased temperatures. SUBSTANCE: method determining plastic component of deformation with brittle destruction during impact bending test includes several stages. Field of sliding lines is constructed for chosen geometrical dimensions of tested sample 1, anvil 2 and striker 3 of pendulum of impact testing machine which is employed to determine width and height of rigid zone 5. Then sample 1 is put on supports of anvil 2 and is deformed by impact of striker 3 of pendulum of impact testing machine. Actual width of contact surface and height size of step across fracture of sample 1 are measured and used to calculate depth of penetration of rigid zone 5 into sample 1 as difference between actual width of contact surface and width of rigid zone divided into tangent of half-angle of striker 3 of pendulum of impact testing machine. Later plastic component of deformation of sample 1 is computed as difference between height size of step across fracture of sample 1 and height of rigid zone 5. Usage of proposed method makes it feasible to evaluate quantitatively deformability of material prior to its brittle destruction and to predict operational reliability of parts of machines and aggregates on this basis.
