FIELD: heating open-hearth furnaces during steel-making process. SUBSTANCE: method of heating open-hearth furnace includes burning carbon-containing fuel and maintenance of thermal load in furnace at maximum level during charging and heating metal burden. Thermal load of furnace is increased to maximum level after closing the furnace hearth by fine scrap, after which remaining metal burden is charged at maximum permissible rate. Height of burden column above level of main baffles is maintained within 500 to 800 mm. Used as carbon-containing fuel is mazut, natural, coke-oven and blast-furnace gases or their mixtures. EFFECT: increased productivity; reduced duration of heat; reduced consumption of fuel; enhanced stability of lining. 2 cl, 2 dwg, 1 ex
