FIELD: ferrous metallurgy; making steel in open-hearth furnaces at blowing with inert or neutral gas through hearth. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes charging of solid metal charge, heating, melting and bringing the molten metal to specified characteristics; proposed method includes blowing the molten metal with neutral gas through hearth in zones along longitudinal axis at use of VVS system units. Before beginning of charging and/or in the course of charging, molten bath is formed in furnace at carbon content more than 2.3% in the amount of 6-10% of mass of metal charge. Molten bath may be formed by remaining steel of previous melt in the amount of 6-10% of mass of metal charge subjected to carburization to content of carbon higher then 2.3% before beginning of charge and/or in the course of charging. EFFECT: reduced melting time. 2 cl, 1 tbl, 9 ex
