FIELD: cutting metals and other electrically conducting materials. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of alternative cutting of electrically conducting material by means of tool insulated and non-insulated relative to body of machine tool; in equal time intervals measuring wear of contact surface of tool; in order to enhance accuracy and to enlarge manufacturing possibilities using cutting tool with remountable polyhedral electrically conducting cutting tip having wear resistant dielectric coating applied onto its main and additional rear faces joined with two of its apexes; performing cutting at successively changing position of apexes of cutting tip in body of tool when only front face of tip is worn.
