FIELD: measurement technology; measurement of level and/or position of interface of liquid media, mainly water-and-oil emulsions in reservoirs; automation systems of oil producing and oil refining industries. SUBSTANCE: method consists in preliminary discrete measurement of level and interface of phases by means of discrete sensors located in succession in height and electronic computer unit followed by measurement of phase interface through determination of relationship of signals from two level sensors located between respective discrete level sensors.
