ARONIA LEAVES EXTRACT SHOWING BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY AND METHOD OF ITS PREPARING Russian patent published in 2001 - IPC

FIELD: chemical-pharmaceutical industry. SUBSTANCE: rowan melanocarpous (Aronia) leaves extract shows an antioxidant activity and inhibitory effect at all stages of lipid peroxidation in liver tissue. Extract has 72-78% of phenolic compounds and among them 25%, not less, of oligomeric proanthocyanidines. Method of extract preparing involves extraction of rowan melanocarpous (Aronia melanocarpa (Michx.) Elliot) cryopowder leaves collected before onset and in the period of blooming. Leaves are extracted with boiling aqueous alcohol followed by separation of an aqueous-alcoholic extracts. Extracts are concentrated to obtain an aqueous solution and filtered. Purification of filtrate is carried out with petroleum or diethyl ether. An aqueous residue is extracted with a mixture of diethyl acetate and alcohol taken in the ratio in mixture 8:2 and alcohol-ethyl acetate extracts are concentrated to obtain a dry residue.
