FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: contaminated tantalum pentaoxide is reacted with potassium-containing compound to form potassium tantalate. Potassium tantalate is suspended in sulfuric acid and dissolved in hydrofluoride acid. The resulting solution is suitable for purification with standard methods of ion exchange or liquid extraction. Besides, potassium fluorotantalate residue is prepared by addition potassium chloride to solution. Fluorotantalate residue is then converted into tantalum pentaoxide by suspending residue in aqueous solution containing chelating agent. Ammonium hydroxide is added to form ammonium tantalum oxide at high temperature. EFFECT: economical and safe dissolution and purification. 18 cl, 1 dwg, 4 ex
