FIELD: manufacture of pumps; centrifugal pumps used for delivery of cryogenic component of rocket propellant for liquid-propellant rocket engine plants. SUBSTANCE: method of starting the cryogenic centrifugal pump provided with relief chamber communicated with pump inlet consists in filling, twisting and pumping component through flow section, auxiliary lines and relief chamber followed by return of component from relief chamber to pump inlet. In filling, entire amount of component from relief is directed to area where pressure is below inlet pressure and in twisting and pumping, only part of component where content of gas at pump inlet exceeds its critical level is directed to this area. Return of entire component to pump inlet is effected when pressure at pump outlet reaches nominal level. Method is realized in cryogenic centrifugal pump which includes housing with impeller mounted on shaft. Relief chamber of impeller is communicated with pump inlet by means of relief passages. Relief passage is additionally communicated with area of pressure below inlet pressure by means of drainage pipe line provided with normally closed valve. Cross-section area of drainage pipe line is no less than half total area of relief passages. EFFECT: enhanced reliability and economical efficiency. 3 cl, 2 dwg
